What the iPad isn’t

Apple has a track record of releasing products that you never knew you needed until you buy them. With the iPad, it seems that the boffins at Cupertino have done it yet again. After all, there isn’t yet a commonly defined category within which the iPad fits. It’s not quite the pocketable dynamo that most modern smart phones are. At the same time, it’s not quite a laptop or net book either.

While there are doubtless going to be tons of detractors, the “Chief Fruit” himself – Steve Jobs – is convinced that the iPad is the most captivating project that he has had the opportunity to be involved in during his time in Apple. Indeed, it seems that with such glowing praise and that compelling glint in his eye, Steve Jobs can do little wrong – certainly not to Apple’s legion of hipster fans. Although there is little doubt that fruit lovers are going to want to make this device THE device to put into their bags this season, there could yet be many reasons why this tablet might be a hard pill to swallow.
