Horror Flicks for Halloween Home Entertainment

Halloween is here, and if you haven’t met with much ghostly excitement in your life lately, fret not (no pun intended) – the DVD rental store offers plenty of options for you to immerse yourself (and your friends) into all manner of alternate realities. Whether you’re looking for some buzz at a house party, or you just want to curl up on the sofa with a bag of delicious healthy trail mix (haven’t you noticed how much walnuts resemble brains, and cashews resemble kidneys…?), there’s definitely something to suit your taste. Here are some recommended titles you could try:

For the investigative trouble-seekers

Shutter Island (2010)

shutter island

The latest Martin Scorsese film to hit cinemas, the highly-anticipated Shutter Island brings the American psychodramatic horror genre to new levels. Highly influenced by the visual style of German Expressionism and film noir (Scorsese cites The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari as a major influence in making this piece), this film is a masterful combination of mood-enhancing music, vivid and inspired cinematography, harsh lighting, and a plot that will keep you guessing way after the movie has ended. This is one piece way up there joining the ranks of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut. For those harbouring some doubts about how horrific this can truly be, a word of advice: don’t let Leonardo DiCaprio turn you away from this one.

Kansen 2004 (Infection) is an interesting asian horror to watch.

“Coming Soon” which is a thai horror show about haunting in the cinema is also good at giving you the shivers, beware not to watch it in cinema as it will freak you out.

i studied about the cabinet of dr Caligari in university, but didn’t get to watch it! anyway, i think one of the best films for halloween is definitely the Japanese film “House”. Someone was beheaded by a lampshade and another was turned into a bunch of bananas. plus the special effects (mainly cutting and pasting) are dope!

The Japanese show u mentioned actually sounds comedic ;p
