Wearing a diamond-studded Longines PrimaLuna timepiece, Taiwanese top model and Longines ambassador, Chi Ling Lin arrived at the doors of Longines newest outlet at Marina Bay Sands in an elegant dress designed by Singaporean designer, Keith Png. The celebrity, who is best known for her saccharine voice and perfect poise, was in Singapore on 12 November, to grace the opening of Longines’ third boutique.

The opening event also marked the announcement of the partnership between Longines and Singapore Turf Club. From this year till 2013, Longines will be the title sponsor of the Longines Singapore Gold Cup, as well as the Official Partner and Timekeeper of the Singapore Turf Club.

The Longines Singapore Gold Cup will be held this Sunday, and will be graced by the Patron of the Club, President Nathan. Traditionally, the race also serves as the annual Charity Race Day to help support social service programmes. This year, Longines will raise funds for APSN (Association for Persons with Special Needs) Chao Yang School, one of the beneficiaries supported by Community Chest.

Besides the Longines PrimaLuna Thousand and One nights timepiece, six rocking horses that were artistically decorated by Chao Yang School’s students, Chi Ling Lin and Denise Keller will be put up for auction.

Chi Ling, a Western Art History graduate, said that her concept was inspired by fashion, as well as contemporary art. “Animal prints is fashionable during winter, and I wanted to include something fashionable to the design”, says Chi Ling.

The chic and funky design has already won a $10,000 bid from President of Longines International, Walter von Kanel, to kick off the auction on Sunday.

When asked by 8flo Lifestyle if she has any tips for picking out a timepiece as a fashion accessory, Chi Ling Lin said that the Longines timepiece that she was wearing (PrimaLuna), is “not just functional but is good to wear for day and night. It has diamonds, which makes it good for wearing out at night, because you want something that sparkles.”

President of Longines International, Walter von Kanel, who had been travelling around Asia before coming to Singapore for this event added that, “Your timepiece says something about you.” He also joked that the watch is “something that is with you 24 hours. It knows all your secrets but it won’t tell anyone!”

This reminds us that our timepiece is probably the most intimate accessory that we have and we’d better make sure we choose one that speaks volumes about our style.
