As the first Asian country, and the third country in the world (after Paris and Milan) to hold Men’s Fashion Week (MFW), the Singapore fashion event has received much anticipation in comparison with the ones held in Paris and Milan. Addressing the media at a press conference held on 16 March, Chairman of MFW 2011 Singapore, Frank Cintamani, said that the fashion event will be a platform for Asian talents, and Singaporeans can look forward to brands and collections that they can’t typically see on the Paris and Milan runways.
One of the brands that will make its runway debut at the MFW, is Song for the Mute, an up and coming Australian-based fashion label, by Indonesian-Chinese graphic designer, Melvin Tanaya, and Cambodian fashion designer, Lyna Ty. The menswear label, though just three seasons old, has already received much rave from international media and bagged prestigious fashion awards. The duo was originally slated to showcase their collection at the Paris Fashion Week 2011 in January, but unfortunately, their entire collection was misplaced. This unfortunate incident has become a “blessing” for those of us in Singapore, because this means we’ll get to preview their Autumn/Winter collection before the rest of the world does.
Shanghai Tang, one of the biggest international labels from Asia, has also chosen MFW 2011 Singapore to showcase their Autumn/Winter Collection. Audience attending this Singapore-based event will get to see the collection before London, New York and China.
Look forward too, to other fashion-forward labels from Asia, such as DressCamp (from Japan), G.I.L Homme (from Korea), Joey Samson (from Philippines) and ISSUE (from Thailand).
From Singapore, ATZU by Noah Naima, Reckless Ericka by Afton Chen, Louis Koh and Ruth Marbun, Elohim by Sabrina are among some of the brands who will debut their latest collections on the MFW runway.
Apart from Asian designers, European labels such as Canali, Hugo Boss, Emmanuel and a.testoni will also be in Singapore to showcase their Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection.
