No, Open House does not refer to a reception for a new establishment, although this one did just open its doors last year. Open House is an international restaurant located on level 4 of Grand Park Orchard that offers up local, western and fusion cuisine. The 150 seater dining area provides ample space to manoeuvre, especially when Open House serves up buffets.
As part of the Singapore Food Festival 2011, Open House is serving up a limited time only a la carte all-you-can-eat menu ($30+ per pax). The highlights of the menu are 2 new Singapore-inspired dishes, Chicken Satay and Black Pepper Fried Flat Noodles, which are the results of a collaboration between Executive Chef Sanjeev Chopra from India’s Gateway Hotel Ganges Varanasi and Executive Chef Chua Yew Hock from Singapore’s Grand Park Orchard. Both dishes are part of the standard menu items in renown Taj Gateway Hotels in India and are popularly received.
The Black Pepper Fried Flat Noodles resembles al dente fettuccine fried with black pepper, ketchup and ginger slices, amongst many other ingredients. Though the black pepper aroma would have been overwhelming on its own, the taste was well balanced with the ketchup.
A variety of spices, such as coriander seeds, cumin seeds and tumeric, were used to prepare the Chicken Satay. The adapted peanut sauce, though conservative in its nuttiness, gained depth in flavour due to the use of spices. It had a little zing to it, perhaps from the addition of vinegar, which was a refreshing twist. The hunks of meat on the wooden skewers were undoubtedly moist. A side of onions, red peppers and cucumber tossed in vinegar and a pinch of pepper added an interesting touch to the dish.
Other dishes on their standard menu worth mentioning include local delights such as dimsum, claypot rice and a wide variety of pizzas.

Their Claypot Burnt Bryani is an adaptation to the Chinese Claypot rice and was inspired when chef Sanjeev Chopra tried our Singapore style Claypot rice for the first time. He added a touch of exotic India to it and voila, a new and fragrant creation. Make sure to stir the Bryani as you would with any Claypot Rice before serving it up to uncover the rich ingredients, then savour the Bryani including its mildly “burnt” bits with fragrant curry.
My personal favorite would be the Kredai Prawn in Coriander and Tomato Salsa. The succulent orbs of fresh prawns were lightly coated in spice and batter and fried to crisp perfection. The crispiness doesn’t only come from the batter, the prawn itself was crunchy fresh!
The a la carte all-you-can-eat menu is available from 22 July to 22 August 2011, from 12pm to 2.30pm and 6.30pm to 10.30pm at $30+ per adult.
