Celeb-moms Share the Joys of Motherhood

There are few joys in this world (if any) that can compare to the joy of motherhood. There is nothing more beautiful or fascinating than the miracle of birth. Women are unique in so many ways and childbirth is one of the most dynamic, life changing experiences that we can ever have. Moreover, motherhood itself is even more life altering than bringing a child into the world. To watch and rear the awesome creation that shared your body for nine months, become a dynamo of boundless energy and excitement in a matter of weeks and months; can have a tremendous impact on your life.

Motherhood matures us, changes our priorities, motives and understanding. Motherhood causes the unseen to be visible, and gives us renewed purpose. But how does this manifest in our favourite celebrities?

We see how motherhood changes the lives of celebrities. We see how it increases them personally and professionally. We even see how scandal and bad press can have a negative effect on both the children and the celebrity mom. Even so, we are still influenced by celebrities, and these popular moms inspire us to give our children a little bit of the “good life.” However, one consistency remains. You cannot become a mother and avoid a complete 180 degree life change. Here are some insightful words and viewpoints from some of Tinsel-town’s most popular faces.

Former Playboy model and Dancing With The Stars contestant Kendra Wilkinson says that motherhood has changed her whole life. Kendra undoubtedly faced several stereotypical opinions about who she was when she arrived on the scene. Many people thought that she was nothing more than the blonde bombshell prototype that Playboy is known for. The new mom of one year old Hank Jr. sees life in a different light. The former model says that she used to be materialistic, but her son made her realize what is really important. “Motherhood has just changed me. I see the world in a different light. I see the true colors of life. I see what the true meaning of life is. Of course, it’s my job to be a celebrity and wear cute things and prance around like a celebrity does. But at the end of day, I’m basically a stay at home mom that wants to love my son. That’s who I am”, said Kendra Wilkinson.

Grammy winning singer Alicia Keys recently added another feat to her list of growing accomplishments. Eight months ago, the talented songstress gave birth to her son Egypt. Because of the birth of her son, the socially conscious Keys gained a deeper passion for her work as an activist, and have since pushed herself to think and act more globally. The love she has for her son has caused her to be more attentive and responsive to the needs of the less fortunate.

“Being a mother myself has made me think about all the children in the world who are motherless or parentless. It breaks my heart because I’m like, ‘What do they do with nobody there to support them and be with them? “I’m a singer, an activist and a mother. I love all three very much and all three of them feed each other. Now becoming a mother makes me understand more about activism and being a mother makes me understand how dreadful it can be to never have a voice to speak to people.” says Alicia Keys.

American Idol judge, actress and singer Jennifer Lopez was also inspired to set up her own charitable foundation after giving birth to her twins Max and Emme. She quoted that having the kids was the most empowering thing she’s experienced, which in turn inspired her to start The Maribel foundation. She created this charity with her sister Lynda, and they are dedicated to advocating women’s health and children’s education.

“It was a dream we had for a long time. Once we had babies, we were ready to say, “Let’s do it”. We’re not claiming to change the world in one day; we’re just going to do our little part. We always said we’d help women and children’s health and education and now it’s happening”, commented Jennifer Lopez

Famed model and actress Rebecca Romijn enjoyed how motherhood has enhanced her femininity even more. She commented on how working so much over the years made her lean on her masculine energy more than she preferred to. Coming home to her 2 year old twin girls makes her proud to be a girl! Rebecca Romijn’s words were, “For me, being a mother of girls has softened me up in such a great way. I feel so honored to be a mother of girls. I grew up with a sister and I’m extremely close with my mom and her sisters. It’s so nice to be soft and girlie with these precious little girls. It’s been really nice.”

World famous athlete Laila Ali has definitely grown up since having 2 year old son Curtis Jr., and newborn daughter Sydney. Like most mothers, Ali’s life has greater meaning now. She is a little overprotective, but her patience has grown as a result of giving birth.

Laila Ali philosophized that she has definitely become more patient in general and tends not to sweat the small stuff anymore. “It’s all about him now! One of the greatest challenges for me is facing the reality that I won’t always be able to protect my child from everything. I have a bigger sense of purpose than I have ever had before.” she said.

Bubbly, outspoken talk show co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck should definitely have the motherhood bag all tied up and secure. The mother of 3, (ages 9, 3 and 1) truly loves her job as a mom; even if her hands are tied with such a busy bunch. Like Laila Ali, Elizabeth has learned not to “sweat the small stuff.” Even though she cannot hit the gym as often as she used to, she has learned about true sacrifices, and her time is spent on concentrating on the things that truly matter. “I finally understand my mom and understand the sacrifices she made…dad too! Everything else seems to be not such a big deal.” said Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
